Post an automated @reply to all followers
This looks so bad and will include an update that is personally sent to all your followers individually and normally says “check out this link.” It’s not personal in the slightest bit and a simple click of their profile will reveal that they have a page full of updates with different @names with the exact same text. These people littering your real time with all their advertising methods. By sending just one out as an update will look so much better and will stop the Twitter spam stigma.
Post automated updates more than twice an hour
One the worst offenders I have seen is this guy selling new release DVD’s.
He will send 60 different promotional updates in the space of 90 seconds. He is not actually spamming because all the messages are different but he is littering your timeline with information that you might not have any interest in. Remember that you are probably not their only follower. They will want to know what their other Twitter pals are up to and this stops them from doing so.
Only go over the twice an hour rule when you are just casually chatting with followers or sending out Follow Fridays. (A.K.A – non-promotional)
Now that that’s out of the way, if you are using Twitter to enhance your business online, get in the habit of checking your Twitter account at least ten times a day and spend about 5 minutes on it at each time. Simply check your @replies first and if someone has left you a message, always reply to it.
It is also very important to send out quality tweets in order to get as many retweets (RT) as possible. An update to build subscribers can double in responses if you get just one RT so imagine how great it can be to get five RT? Simply asking readers to “Pls RT this Msg” can go a loongg way.
Every follower that you have is a future customer and you should treat them with the upmost respect. Afterall, the customer is always number one. This is because they are the only ones that pocess the potential to line your wallet.
Embrace a mindset where you are not superior to your followers and let that mindset shine when chatting to your followers.
On Twitter, it’s okay to mix business and pleasure together. It is no good to just self-promote, as this will always hurt and hinder your reputation. People that have large followings didn’t get it by just posting links to their Blog. It is from interacting with their customers and potential customers. Because of this type of social chit chat, I know that when releasing a new product, I will have many people available at the drop of a hat to provide me with testimonials for review copies, joint ventures, and marketing help.Think about it. Would you rather follow someone that chats with their followers or the one that has nothing but sales links to their blog posts?
Another point to make that a lot of people fail to understand is that you must send regular updates about what you are doing. afterall, that’s what Twitter is about anyway. The easiest way to tweet is to send out a morning email and an evening one. You could then have another in the late morning letting people know what you are up to.
Once you have got to grip with Twitter, using this approach, you will soon come to realize that Twitter is free advertising at its best. You can incorporate a lot of different paid advertising into it without the hefty price tag.
The biggest lesson on the real way to make money with Twitter is that your Twitter followers are your second subscriber base. This is because you can do the exact same with them that you do with a list of email subscribers:
